My role at Waterstons is...
Looking after an amazing team of software consultants. I still lead projects from time to time and assist with technical issues when needed (and wanted!), but I see myself first and foremost as an enabler of brilliantly talented people to do brilliantly creative work. I care about helping people discover what it is that drives them and gives them purpose, so I can help them on the journey of becoming the best versions of themselves and play my part in building a cohesive team of unique and empowered individuals.
My proudest Waterstons moment is...
I've delivered a number of bespoke software solutions of which I'm very proud. However, my greatest pride now comes in seeing my team members do the same; watching them delivering real value to clients, supporting each other and proactively looking for ways to expand on and improve the way we work is what gets me out of bed in the morning.
My life away from work is...
Full of music! I've played guitar most of my life but also consider myself a passable bassist and drummer. I spent a number of years using my free time to tour the UK with my wife who's a singer-songwriter, and more recently have set up a home studio where I'm getting a massive kick out of levelling up my production, mixing and mastering skills and doing session work for local artists.
If I'm not hived away in the studio, you'll likely find me with my head in a book, playing Xbox or enjoying the amazing natural scenery in the Lakes or up in Scotland with my wife and dog.
I’ll be with you when...
You have a problem, and you feel like software must be able to solve it but you're not sure how or where to begin. Or you have a team that feels disjointed and capable of being more high-performing than it currently is. Or you just want an empathetic ear and someone to listen!
